Saturday, July 8th was the second running of the Tour de Flagler. The 30+ mile Tour entails two of Central Florida’s premier MTB trails with a bit of road, sidewalk, multi-use trail, and dirt doubletrack connecting the two. Also in the route are two bridge climbs in the blazing sun which everyone genuinely looks forward to as the highlights of the day.
Every ride doesn’t have to be a ball buster…as much as the chest puffers may object, there is intrinsic value in a slow day. After a few consecutive tough rides with the young guns, three of us ol’ timers declined on storming the adjacent town’s “A” ride (where charging through a red light is considered a breakaway)…..leave that to the young guns.
Choices, decisions, questions, guesses, gut feelings…..The inaugural running of the Romp Around Lake George 200km Off Road Rando launched this morning from Lake Woodruff Wildlife refuge in Central Florida. The usual lack of rain and blazing heat for this time of year has put some tough decisions ahead of the riders.
March 4 marked the inaugural voyage of the Tour de Flagler Ultra, a leisurely (at least in the beginning) 40 mile mountain bike ride through two of the best trail systems Central Florida has to offer. The ride began at Bing’s Landing, a beautiful park within walking distance to the beach.
So for the past three months, the only thing I ever speak about is cyclocross…. The cyclocross race season, cyclocross bikes, the awesome cyclocross family, the insanely hard cyclocross race courses, the heated battle in the points race, the misadventures of traveling with the fun loving crowd, yadda yadda yadda..you get the idea.
